Yamagoya started as a pop-up on Shaftesbury Avenue and is now in its first permanent space. You order at the counter, and you can choose from eight hot or cold ramens, or grab from a selection of healthy-ish Japanese snacks sitting in the fridge that you can wolf down quickly before running across the road to the Young Vic or around the corner to the Old Vic before the curtains go up for a show. Their signature Yamagoya ramen is a rich, fatty, almost creamy broth, and is the one you should order your first time through. This is a great addition to the area, and a reason for us not to feel absolute despair when we can’t get a table at The Anchor and Hope.
