Rum Kitchen is decked out to look like a Jamaican beachside bar, looking back to the area’s time as a West Indian community, but the impact isn’t at all rosy-tinted or theme-parky. The rum list is so long you’d probably die before you had a chance to taste them all, and the food is what you’d expect to eat with rum, lots of fried and jerk and curried. If you just want a couple of quick cocktails, go at happy hour and drink daiquiris at bargain prices - this is our favourite way to use the place. If you’re settling in for the evening, try to sit in the clubby basement room. Soak up some of the alcohol with sweetcorn fritters or sweet potato fries, even if you’re not there for a meal.
