The Kimukatsu name is a pretty big deal over in Japan, and Sawtelle has the only location in the continental U.S.. What’s the hype about? The pork cutlets. And by “cutlets” we actually mean 25 thinly stacked layers of sliced pork, deep-fried with panko batter. Skip the ramen options and go straight for one of the sets. You’ll get your pork with rice, miso soup, cabbage, and Japanese pickles. This is an essential meal on Sawtelle.
Sawtelle’s Tsujita does the best tsukemen-style ramen this side of the Pacific and some of the best overall ramen in Los Angeles.
Marugame Udon is a casual, cafeteria-style spot to get your weekly (daily?) noodle fix on Sawtelle.
Killer Noodle is the newest spot from the people behind Tsujita, and they specialize in tantanmen - super spicy ramen noodles.
As a general rule, sushi joints attached to fast food burger chain should probably be avoided. Unless that place is Got Sushi? in Northridge.
