You know that Indian place on 1st Avenue with all those lights? This is it. Panna II makes some decent Indian food, but it’s really all about decor here. Year round, their dining room is filled with strings of colorful lights. And not just a few. They’re everywhere. It’s also BYOB, and it’s a good place for a more-fun casual group dinner.
Malai Marke is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the East Village. There’s a lot of meat on the menu, but vegetarians can eat very well here.
After closing their East Village location, this Indian restaurant is now back with a more upscale space near Union Square.
Downtown Bakery serves our favorite breakfast burritos in the East Village, as well as all-day Pueblan specials that are perfect for a quick lunch.
Punjabi Grocery & Deli is an NYC institution, like The Met or the Statue of Liberty, serving vegetarian curries and chaat on Houston Street.
