This quiet Japanese restaurant in the Richmond is the ideal place for a date night when you want to break out that fancy new top. It’s a small space, but not so small that the entire place will learn about the ongoing feud with your landlord. There are only two options here: the sushi tasting menu ($120), or the full-blown omakase ($165). We like sitting at the counter for the omakase because you’ll get to experience their more inventive dishes that set this place apart, like the deep-fried squid ink spring roll with gooey pepper jack cheese, or the dried persimmon and tiny square of miso cream cheese held together with a toothpick.

Omakase

For $165, you get 19 courses of bite-sized appetizers, miso soup, and more excellent torched, cured, and soy-brushed nigiri than you can count. It’s a lot of food, and you get your money’s worth—by the time the strawberry granita rolls around, you’ll be full of fish and very satisfied.
