A great sandwich spot usually means something quick to grab during the daytime. Pop in, grab a sandwich, and keep the day moving. You could do that at Wyler Road, but that would be a mistake. Wyler Road is a place to sit and eat sandwiches both during the day and at night.

The menu here is made up of almost all sandwiches, but this isn’t your typical sandwich joint. You’ll find sandwiches like a veal heart Philly cheesesteak and a fried clam belly sandwich with bacon and aioli on a French roll. There are more regular (and delicious) options like roast beef, but it’s the special sandwiches that take Wyler Road to the next level, along with the perfect low-key ambience it’s able to carry throughout the day.

By day, Wyler Road is a café - a place you can post up with your work, coffee, and sandwich knowing the waitstaff isn’t in a hurry to kick you out. In the summer, make sure to check out their small patio out back.

But at night, Wyler Road feels like a combination of your neighborhood cafe and local dive bar, except with great food and great service. You could easily bring a date here, and get seated between a family of four from the neighborhood, or next to someone enjoying a rib eye sandwich by themselves. That, along with the sandwiches, is what’s impressive about this spot: you can get solo eaters, drinkers, dates, and even families all comfortable in the same space.

Cheese Curds

Have you ever had bad cheese curds? Didn’t think so. These are good cheese curds, and a quality house ranch for dipping too.

Vanguard Potato Balls

Fried potato balls with cheez whiz, bacon bites, crema, and chive. These aren’t light, but order them unless you’re dining alone.

Reuben

A very respectable reuben. They aren’t going for the giant deli-style sandwich here. Instead, this is a clean looking sandwich with the usual reuben ingredients - corned beef, swiss, russian dressing, and bread and butter pickles on their cocktail rye.

Veal Heart Philly

This sandwich isn’t for everyone, but if you’re down with the veal heart then it’s really good. The meat tastes like chopped liver, but the rest of it is good old fashioned philly cheesesteak.

Smoked Salmon Sandwich

Our favorite of the lighter sandwiches. A bit of smoked salmon, old bay cream cheese, charred onion jam, and dill cucumber on their cocktail rye bread. It’s not a very big sandwich, but the combo of flavors, particularly the charred onion jam, is excellent.

Roast Beef Sandwich

A very simple roast beef sandwich, but quality of the roast beef makes it work. It’s served on their “pain de mie” bread, which is basically homemade Wonder Bread. The bread is intended to be plain, so if that’ll bore you then get something else.

Rib Eye Sandwich

A whole bunch of rib eye with onion rings, chimicurri, and au jus on a challah brioche. This is a serious sandwich, and a good route for a hearty meal.

Short Rib Sandwich

Short rib with beef gravy, blue cheese, and fried shallot on a french roll. Think fancy Italian beef to an extent.

Fried Clam Belly Sandwich

We’re big fans of this fried clam belly with bacon, lemon aioli, and lettuce on a french roll.

Fried Haddock Sandwich

Think fish and chips on a sandwich. The bread has good crunch and the piece of haddock is large. It’s crispy on the outside, flakey on the inside, and the tartar sauce and bread and butter pickles round things out nicely.
