In the time it takes you to ride the 6 train from Union Square to Grand Central, you can take a ferry from Fidi to Governor’s Island. And once you’re there, you can check out Island Oyster. It’s the latest spot from the Grand Banks people, and it’s essentially just one big, long outdoor bar where you can grab some drinks and seafood while you stare across the water at downtown Manhattan. There’s plenty of seating, and you should try to grab a drink here before it gets too cold to do so.

Good Story is the rooftop bar at the Arlo Soho hotel, and, as far as rooftop bars go, it’s a pretty pleasant place to hang with a group downtown.
