Takao is a casual Brentwood sushi classic that couldn’t be more Brentwood. The crowd is a mix of older couples having early dinners, ex-fraternity brothers and their dates spending a lot on omakase, families, and groups of friends catching up for a fat-free dinner of raw fish. The sushi is fine, and some of the special sashimi are great, but nothing is particularly special. While the fish is fresh, the dishes feel a little stuck in the ’90s. Although they definitely don’t come at ’90s prices.

Sushi Park in West Hollywood is fun and kitschy, but no longer a destination for LA sushi purists.
